VIDEODANTE #CHILE is a trilogy of web performances created through an innovative method of remote collaboration between Italian and Chilean artists. The project was developed to mark the 700th anniversary of the death of the Supreme Poet and is part of the initiative “Contemporaneity and Tradition: a journey through the cultural sites of the Emilia-Romagna region, through contemporary theatre and Dantean inspirations.”
This is a utopian experiment in artistic sharing, carried out through virtual meetings and creative work sessions between Instabili Vaganti and Chilean actor Claudio Santana Bórquez. The aim is to explore Dante’s universe and create three video works inspired by selected cantos from Inferno.
The central theme of the trilogy is the concept of the “journey,” a fundamental element of The Divine Comedy and a source of great inspiration for Dante. A journey that is often impossible—and which, especially in light of the events shaking our contemporary world, becomes increasingly difficult to undertake. From this yearning to cross boundaries and limits, to discover what lies beyond an ocean, emerges the exploration of mythological figures and references from Dante’s work—from Icarus to Geryon, to the hero of the “mad flight” himself: Ulysses.
From Dantean sites in Emilia-Romagna, the viewer is transported to the shores of Valparaíso in a dreamlike, imaginative journey that carries Dante beyond all borders.
