Created as part of the international research and co-creation project Beyond Borders, Frontières #Tunisie – Oudna is a site-specific video dance production that reimagines the original interdisciplinary Italo-Tunisian performance within the evocative setting of the ancient Roman archaeological site of Oudna, Tunisia.
This contemporary and experimental co-production blends the languages of dance, movement, and multilingual dramaturgy to explore the concept of the “border” alongside a group of Italian and Tunisian dancers, performers, and choreographers. Under the direction of Anna Dora Dorno, the performance integrates traditional and ritualistic elements from various cultures, reinterpreted through contemporary theatre and dance. The result is an open and evolving performative structure—following the metaphorical path of an “expanding circle”—which begins with the personal memories of the performers and expands toward pressing global sociopolitical questions.
In this cinematic adaptation, the ancient ruins of Oudna become a living stage where bodies, voices, and histories converge. The artists delve into their own pasts and cultural traditions to interpret the present, narrating—through gestures, actions, songs, and spoken word—the obstacles they have faced, the borders they have crossed to affirm their identities, and the new challenges that lie ahead.
